All women leaders’ meeting held

An all women leaders’ meeting attended by leaders of seven women’s organizations was held on May 5,  2021 at the  Franciscan Renewal Center in Minglanilla, Cebu.

The women’s organizations are currently involved in a project of the Women’s Resource Center of Visayas, Inc. (WRCV). A total of 50 participants attended the meeting. During the meeting, the leaders discussed about the issues in their communities.  They include inadequate sources of income, lack of decent job opportunities, meager catch from fishing for fishermen,  worsening economic crisis, and rising cost of living.

The participants all expressed their desires to have better sources of income and uplift themselves from poverty.

The meeting laid down the plans of the organizations that they shall undertake in the coming months.  There were also plans to establish a women’s alliance that aims to further empower grassroots women to stand up against defeating projects like public infrastructures  and land reclamation that result to their dislocation from their homes and livelihood  and environmental degradation. Furthermore, the alliance envisions a more liveable Cebu that prioritizes the welfare of the marginalized sectors including the grassroots women, is gender just, and environmentally friendly. The mechanics of how the women’s alliance will be formed will be further discussed.
